Seeing the rising Coronavirus cases in the nation, quality healthcare and fast treatment has become the need of the hour. Hence, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has announced the launch of Corona Kavach Policy and made it compulsory for all General & Standalone health insurance companies in India to provide this policy to its customers.
Corona Kavach is an indemnity based health insurance plan. This health insurance plan is designed to safeguard you and your family from the heavy expenses of COVID-19. This plan is available on an individual as well as the family floater basis.

Corona Kavach offers comprehensive coverage to the insured if (s)he is diagnosed with COVID-19. Let's check out the coverage in detail.
The plan offers hospitalization coverage for COVID-19 (up to INR 5,00,000)
It also offers coverage for availing treatment at home for COVID-19.
Corona Kavach policy provides pre & post hospitalization coverage (up to the sum insured) for 15 & 30 days respectively.
The plan offers coverage against inpatient care treatment for COVID-19 under Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.
Any disease (including pre-existing conditions) will be liable to get the cover along with COVID-19.

Below is a list of exclusions under Corona Kavach Policy
Hospitalization for diagnostics and evaluation purposes is not liable to get the coverage as it is not part of the treatment.
Expenses associated with bed rest, custodial care at home, or nursing facility is not covered.
The expenses of medicine without a prescription is not liable to get the required coverage.
The plan does not offer coverage against unproven treatment, services, and supplies that lack significant medical documentation to support their effectiveness.
Medical expenses due to OPD treatments or daycare procedures will not get covered.
Any expenses incurred with respect to inoculations, vaccinations, or other preventive treatment shall not be covered.
Testing done at a diagnostic centre, which is not authorized by the Government will not be recognized by this policy.
Buying Corona Kavach Policy is very simple. Just follow the below-mentioned steps-
The claim process of Corona Kavach Policy is similar to a regular health insurance plan. The policy can be claimed for cashless or either reimbursement. The steps for filing a claim are mentioned below.
1. Is there an age limit to buy Corona Kavach Policy?
The minimum entry age is 1 day for children and 18 years for adults. The maximum entry age limit for adults is 65 years. Dependent Children will be covered up to 25 years in a floater policy
2. Is there any pre-policy medical check required for buying this policy?
No PPMC will be required for this policy.
3. How many sum insured options are available in this policy?
The Sum Insured options available under this policy include Rs. 50,000, 1 lac, 1.5 lacs, 2 lacs, 2.5 lacs, 3 lacs, 3.5 lacs, 4 lacs, 4.5 lacs, 5 lacs.
4. Is there a limit as to how long a person can stay in the hospital?
In the case of COVID-19 hospitalization, the patient can stay at the hospital until the recovery. There is no such restriction on the number of days.
5. Will I get tax benefits under Corona Kavach Policy?
One can avail tax benefit under Section 80 D of Income Tax Act, 1961. This section is subject to revision in tax laws.
6. Does this policy offer worldwide coverage?
No, that won't be possible.
